LOOKING FOR INTERIMS?

Interim Pastors for New Church Starts

photo of preacher holding Bible In recent weeks WordAlone has been contacted by several new church starts around the country looking for pastoral assistance to get going. Some of these new congregations have successfully found pastors using our Clergy Connect service. Others are not yet capable of supporting a full time pastor, but need pastoral assistance to help the congregation grow.

WordAlone is placing this notice on Clergy Connect to help locate pastors who may have a calling for short term interim positions in newly developing parishes. Here are the kinds of gifts and abilities we think may be needed for this:

  • Deep commitment to preaching and teaching ministry.
  • The ability to provide pastoral care for people transitioning out of the ELCA.
  • Excitement about starting new churches.
  • Experience in developing new congregations is extremely desirable.
  • A willingness to relocate for a period of time.
  • Some ability to be partially self-supporting (retired, sabbatical, tentmaker, etc.).

If this kind of challenge stirs your interest and sense of call WordAlone would like to talk to you. We are planning to add this new capability to our Chaplains Corps. WordAlone Chaplains have already been very successful in helping to start new churches. We would like to develop a team who is mobile to fill the need in places we do not have chaplains. If you are willing to consider this please contact Pr. Mike Hanson at strengthfinder@gmail.com.

You may view the list of chaplains who have already made themselves available for such service. Click Here.

Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church (LCMC)

Map

Pastor

Church information: Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church ministers to 552 baptized members with an average weekly attendance of 140. It is nestled in a rural and agrarian community in South Central Nebraska. It is a geocentric community with a proud ancestry and deep Christian/German roots that date back to the 1800s. Throughout the years the community has become more diverse even though the congregation membership remains predominately Caucasian. Mobility, others moving into the community, and marriages bringing in members from outside the church have changed the make-up of the congregation. As in all congregations, societal changes (more competition for time, single parent families, both parents working, mobility, etc.) have changed the demographics of the congregation. The community itself is a “graying” or aging population, but the congregation still has a good balance of all ages. There are many resources associated with being rural and agricultural that benefits the congregation. However, there are resources and services that are not as accessible (medical, cultural, educational, etc.) due to the remoteness of the community/congregation.

Interested parties can send through email or mail (1) cover letter, (2) resume, (3) certification from LCMC, (4) list of references, and (5) a personal statement of faith. Contact Jeff Scharff or Cinde Wendell with questions. Applications will be received until Monday, July 2, 2012 and the approximate start-date is September 1, 2012.

Immanuel Lutheran (Other) Map

Interim Pastor

Church information: Immanuel Lutheran is seeking an interim pastor to assist in the transition from a pastoral call of 20+ years through the search for a full-time permanent pastor. Our average worship attendance is 150 on Sunday mornings, and we have a total baptized membership of just under 400 people. Our congregation was established in 1888, and we currently enjoy a blended service. It is an exciting time at Immanuel Lutheran. We are currently an ELCA congregation, although we have already taken the 1st vote to leave the ELCA. We anticipate the second vote to occur in July or August of this year. We are about to finish construction on a brand new educational building, and hope utilizing this great addition to our campus later this fall. We currently have two full time staff members, a secretary and youth and family minister. Primary responsibilities will include leading worship, adult education, visitation, and performing baptisms, weddings, and funerals. A parsonage is available and ready.

Area information: Immanuel is located 5 miles south of Fresno and Clovis, CA in the unincorporated town of Easton, a rural community of approximately 1800 people. The climate is a mild winter, fall, and spring with hot and dry summers. Easton is located in the center of the state and is about 2 hours driving distance to the Pacific Ocean to the west and Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks to the East.
