On June 29 and 30 the Board of Directors of the WordAlone Network held its most recent meeting, at the Network's office in New Brighton, Minn.
In connection with that meeting, the board participated in a joint meeting with Minneapolis and St. Paul WordAlone members. For me, that joint meeting was a real highlight of the board's busy two days in Minnesota.
WordAlone is its membership. As WordAlone members, as WordAlone congregations and as WordAlone chapters, we are all working together to promote a Christ-centered Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
At our meeting with the Twin Cities members of WordAlone, we discussed ways to get the word out about what WordAlone is and about what WordAlone is doing. One way WordAlone chapters and congregations can do this is by sponsoring events on topics of interest to Lutherans concerned about the future of the ELCA. The WordAlone Network has board members and staff located around the United States and we may be able to help provide speakers for your local events.
Much is going on right now in the ELCA and in WordAlone. A WordAlone chapter event could feature presentations on topics such as the WordAlone theological institute, which is now in the works; the WordAlone project to develop materials for Christian education; WordAlone's efforts to help seminarians and new pastors; and the cooperative activities that WordAlone is engaging in with other reform-minded Lutherans through Lutheran CORE, the coalition for reform, and Lutheran Churches of the Common Confession (LC3).
WordAlone is firmly committed to being a grassroots reform movement. The board and staff of WordAlone are working to carry out the mission of our WordAlone Network. The membership, though, is the heart of WordAlone. One by one, we can make a difference. And through our congregations and WordAlone chapters we can be strong voices for confessional Lutheranism.
