Lutheran CORE calls for major revisions to draft social statement on sexuality

Mark C. Chavez, director

July 26, 2008

photo of Pastor ChavezLutheran CORE's Steering Committee and Advisory Council sent an open letter in early July to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America sexuality task force that asks the task force to make major revisions to the ELCA's Draft Social Statement on Human Sexuality. The letter was also sent to the ELCA Church Council and Conference of Bishops.

Lutheran CORE leaders believe the draft social statement reflects neither the clear Biblical witness concerning human sexuality nor a confessional Lutheran understanding of the authority of God's Word over all matters of sexuality.

The WordAlone Network is one of the member organizations of Lutheran CORE, the coalition for reform that works for change within the ELCA.

You may add your name to the list of additional signers to the open letter by sending your name, city and state to info@lutherancore.org.

Responses to the draft social statement must be submitted to the ELCA by Nov. 1.
